Jonathan Jervis completed his undergraduate and graduate degrees at Andrews University, earning a BSW and MSW focused on clinical social work. More recently, Jonathan completed a Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) and a Master of Laws in Professional Legal Practice (LPC, LLM).
Jonathan is an experienced therapist with a demonstrated history of working in the hospital, community, and healthcare industry. He has earned certification as a family therapist and passed the master’s level licensure examination set for social workers by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB). Mr. Jervis has had experience working on a multidisciplinary team at the skilled nursing home Royalton Manor in St. Joseph, Michigan, and also in foster care at Bethany Christian Services in Benton Harbor, Michigan, where he held a limited master’s level license (LLMSW). From there, he moved to the state of Indiana to work as a Skills Trainer Specialist at Oakland Psychiatric Center in South Bend with individuals with dual diagnoses suffering from severe mental illness (SMI) and substance abuse issues.
Following his work in South Bend, Indiana, Jonathan moved to another organization, Keys Counseling Services in Elkhart, Indiana, to function as a Community-Based Child and Family Therapist. His community-based role worked with Elkhart County’s probation court services, functioning as a therapist and advocate. Upon returning home to Bermuda, Mr. Jervis joined the Child and Adolescent Services (CAS), providing acute mental health services to children, adolescents, and their families. As a member of the CAS multidisciplinary team on the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute Campus, Jonathan served as the Experiential Therapist for five years before transitioning to the lead Mental Health Case Manager for two years, providing acute psychiatric assessment and intervention. In 2019, Jonathan also started a private practice, still in operation, BDA Home-Based Counseling Services, providing evidence-based clinical mental health services for adult clients in the comfort of their homes or via tele-therapy platforms such as Zoom or WebEx.
Jonathan continues to advance the Counseling and Social Work professional bodies by working with regulatory bodies, relevant government organizations, and local stakeholders. He remains passionate about his work as an advocate and the population he serves. A lifelong learner, he values self-care, work-life balance, and continued professional development, research, and academic exposure.
